Joseph Crawhall’s ‘A Lincolcshire Pasture’
26May, 2012Glasgow Boy Joseph Crawhall’s ‘A Lincolcshire Pasture’ has been interpreted by Ian Middleton to form part of the exhibition which commences mid June 2012 in preview form at the Ring O’Bells Thornton, Bradford. The original work was completed in 1882 and is representative of Crawhall’s passion for painting animals in their natural rural life setting. Ian has created a work measuring only 10×8 inches and he has tried to give it a more rustic and semi impressionist style. A slightly casual, loose rendition of oil paint has been applied to a pre-textured canvass given the overall appearance a heavier look than the original in order to compensate for the smaller size. The work can best be described as ‘following Crawhall’ rather than reproducing and thus providing a degree of originality.
